I'm Connie, a NASM-certified personal trainer in Victoria, BC. I did not
arrive here in a straight line.
I grew up in a small town near Nuremberg, Germany, and trained as a
conference interpreter for German, English and French. For a couple of
years I worked as a translator for the German military's language service
— a job that included a deployment to northern Afghanistan.
It was during the basic training for that role that I first noticed how
out of shape I was. I started running. I joined a gym.
Somewhere in those years I found the barbell. I moved to Canada in 2011
and to Vancouver Island in 2019, and I have been lifting ever since
— most of it in my own garage gym.
More recently, I have rediscovered my love of running. I built up from a
5k to a half marathon, and now the marathon. Some days life is hard and
running is easy; other days it is the other way round. Either way, if I
can run a marathon, I can do life.
Through the struggles and the ups and downs, training is what has kept me
grounded.
I train around an eleven-year-old's schedule, so I have a realistic idea
of what fitting workouts into an actual week looks like. Not the version
with two spare hours and a perfect gym.
I know what it is to start from scratch as an adult, in an unfamiliar
room, surrounded by people who look like they already know what they are
doing. What I want most is to help you discover what exercise can do:
build confidence in your own body, and give a busy mind a break.
